Our Moral Compass: Self Awareness vs Self-Judgement

“Self-awareness is NOT self-judgement. It is looking and seeing, and discovering who you really are. So, check your judgement at the door.”

-Author Unknown

When comparing the words self awareness and self judgement the only commonality they have with one another is the word self. Other than that like former President Harry S. Truman said, “the buck stops here.”

Self awareness primarily deals with the recognition of one’s own emotions, strengths and abilities that encourages the continual growth of an individual. Self judgement focuses on those things you do well but also on your faults which can overshadow your sense of self worth. Self judgement is very black and white with no gray area whereas self awareness is that gray area.

Essentially self awareness is more or less a state of observation and finding out who you are. Nothing more, nothing less.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your self awareness skills?
