The Roadmap We Need to Use
“You have to follow your moral compass: it’s a good guide of telling you what is right and wrong.”
I remember the very long road trips I would embark upon each summer with my Mom, Dad and brother in our very own Griswold station wagon going from Maryland to Florida to visit my grandparents. No matter how many times we went on this trip, my Dad always insisted on going to AAA to get the infamous TripTik. For those that are unfamiliar with what this is, it is a map that starts from your home and guides you through however many states you need to go through in order to arrive at your destination. This was basically the old school version of what Waze and Google Maps now provides drivers today.
The AAA representative would bound a series of maps together for the traveler and mark, with a highlighter, the specific roads to travel, where road construction was happening and other potential hazards along the way. The most important factor to this whole process was to show you the fastest and safest route to go. So why in the world am I telling you this and what does this have to do with today’s quote? I’m glad you asked.
Like TripTik or Waze guiding us safely from point A to point B, our moral compass does the same thing for each of us as we travel on our own journey along the road called life. When we come to certain crossroads in our lives, our moral compass affords us the opportunity to make many decisions like helping us determine right from wrong based on what we value most.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards further developing your own moral compass?
