Acknowledging That Mistakes Lead to Learning More About Ourselves

“Being self-aware is not the absence of mistakes, but the ability to learn and correct them.”

Daniel Chidiac

Mistakes. Just that word alone has always had a negative connotation for me. It reminds myself of times where I thought I failed at something with no hopes of redemption. If I did not achieve the goals I set how would others view me? How would I view myself? Looking back this type of thinking was more of a fixed mindset and I found myself not really assessing my true abilities honestly and was stuck in such a negative cycle.

And that’s when it dawned on…making mistakes does not mean I’m a failure; I only truly fail when I give up on myself completely. My own thoughts can be my greatest strength or my greatest weakness. I realized I have a lot of more strengths to offer and serve others with than limitations. As Yogi Roth has said, “Limitations are only the ones we put on ourselves.”

Mistakes are bound to happen and are a part of life. They help us grow as individuals and afford us the opportunity to correct them.  Mistakes are not finite. We must learn from them not matter how much pain it may have caused someone else or us. It will in the long run help us gain a much clearer perspective about ourselves and strengthen the belief in our own abilities.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more self aware?
