Encouragers, Not Discouragers

“We can improve our relationships with others by leaps and bounds if we become encouragers instead of critics.”

-Joyce Meyer

Relationships. Relationships with your colleagues. Relationships with your friends. Relationships with your family. As the saying goes “trust is like a two way street.” In order to establish and maintain a strong bond in any relationship, trust is at the heart of it. This can only can truly be developed and fostered if we are encouragers, not discouragers, or as today’s quote mentions, critics.

Like a coach that coaches their athlete through a marathon or a teacher that inspires their students to believe in themselves to not give in to certain challenges that they may face in the classroom or life, an encourager helps to build up the confidence within these individuals while instilling within them a growth mindset.

Whether you are a encourager or a discourager (critic) each role can significantly not only affect your relationship with others but even with yourself. Both can have long lasting affects. Your positive or negative self talk can strengthen or weaken your sense of worth. It is up to us to do what is right.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing relationship skills in your own life?
