Never Make a Decision Based on Fear

“You can’t make decisions based on fear and the possibility of what might happen.”

-Michelle Obama

We have all heard the phrase that “fear is in the eye of the beholder”  or  Franklin D. Roosevelt’s infamous quote “All we have to fear is fear itself.” We need to remember it is our own thoughts that create and give these fears within our head power and presents a cloud of unnecessary anxiety and in some ways the sense of courage within ourselves is somewhat lost. The hardest part in all of this is that it often occurs around things that haven’t even happened yet and the worst case scenarios continue to pop in our heads: what if  I lose my job, what if I do not  I have enough money to pay for my bills or what if my child starts hanging out with the “wrong” crowd?

No one has a crystal ball as to what the future may hold for ourselves or our loved ones. If we allow fear to control our thoughts and actions, the decisions we make are being  made with a sense of uncertainty and unless we live through our fears we can never truly move past them. Fear will continue to control us instead of us controlling it. We cannot control what might happen but we can control how we respond to what happens after the decision is made, whether it turned out be a good or bad decision. Remember that if we do not make a decision based on fear, that is in fact a decision and prevents us from growing as an individual.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards increasing your responsible decision making skills in your own life?
