What Steers Us All

“On the ocean of life let your mind be the ship and your heart be the compass.”

James David Manning

Like the ocean, the vast experiences we encounter are endless and each memory or experience seamlessly connects with one another. And it is through our mind that helps keep ourselves afloat. Much like a ship on the water it represents our logical and rational side of how we perceive things. Many may think that it is the mind that also steers this ship but it isn’t, it is merely the vessel.

At the heart of what steers us all throughout life is our moral compass. They are in actuality one in the same. It guides us in developing the indispensable qualities that define our character. This does not happen all at once and is done over the time and through our experiences. Our heartfelt actions involve our feelings and help us to connect on a deep emotional level with others and ourselves. It in essence brings out our compassion to help others.

We are never truly lost as long as we allow our moral compass to show us the way.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your moral compass?
