“When you’re different, sometimes you don’t see the millions of people who accept you for what you are. All you notice is the person who doesn’t.”
From the time when we are small to the moments that occur throughout our lives we are in search of one thing: acceptance. This may not be always at the forefront of our minds at all times but it is there, deep within our subconscious, through our thoughts and even in our actions.
In today’s quote the word “different” is used to describe each of us. It is often used in conjunction with the word “same” and examples are often provided why two things may be similar or opposite of one another. Rarely, when we do use the word different do we convey to others (and ourselves) that it also means that something is unique or distinct. In another way to look at things, it means that it is special.
Different is actually a beautiful word and we need to recognize that each of us have our own unique qualities that make us who we are. Before we can accept others we need to accept ourselves and believe in our own ability to succeed in different situations that may happen in our lives.
We sometimes have the tendency to focus on that one person that doesn’t accept us for who we are and forget how many people in our lives actually love and respect us for those unique qualities that make us, us. Remember that and when you begin doubting yourself because of one person’s opinion, recognize how your special attributes bring out the best in others and especially in yourself.
Developing a strong sense of self awareness leads to limitless possibilities for you and it is important for us to paint an accurate picture of ourselves and learn to accept ourselves for who we are. It is not easy road to travel and we have to work hard at being comfortable in our own skin. By trusting in our own abilities, it will help continue in building self-efficacy.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards increasing your own self awareness?
