“An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching.”
Have you ever been around someone that talks a big game but never delivers anything on what they preach or boasts about what they are going to do? I know I have. Today’s quote by Gandhi reminds us that when we put our mind towards practice on getting better on the goal or goals we have for ourselves, we are much closer to achieving them than just talking about them.
For years I have said I wanted to start producing content that would have impact on others. I told people for several years how I wanted and was going to to write a book. In both instances I talked to others about and said I was going to do something but if I’m being honest, I had little action behind those words. I always said to myself I’d start on this day, or this particular weekend or this break but it would come and go and I’d have nothing to show for it. Have you ever gone through something like this?
Then I just reach a moment whee I had enough of the talk and it was time to actually do something about it. I researched how to compose and write a blog, the platform I needed to use, etc. This is now my 87th blog since I started over Winter Break and I think with each day I’m getting better and learning more each day. I then went and researched how to turn these blogs into podcasts and tested things out first before producing them for iTunes and other social media platforms. Again I was shaky at it but through time and perseverance I have gotten better even though I don’t always like the sound of my voice. Now I am writing the book I’ve always wanted to write. I don’t always know if what I am writing about will resonate with anyone but just having the satisfaction of finally bringing to life something I said I’d do for so long is such an awesome feeling.
As the saying goes “Practice what you preach.” I’m just glad that after years of hearing this advice I’m actually doing it. So if there is something out there that you’ve always said you wanted to do what’s stopping you other maybe you? The ball is in your court .The question is are your going to take the shot or let the clock run out on your dreams? It’s up to you.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
