Our Decision Making
“Unsuccessful people make decisions based on their current situation; successful people make decisions based on where they want to be.”
In order to make the best decisions in life I believe we need to be forward thinkers and base our decisions on what are intentions are for the desired result. This, however, can be a challenge due to the fear of the unknown and often times becomes more of a “hope to be” because of this uncertainty as to what the result will actually be. Making a decision based on the current situation seems less risky and more or less safe.
Now this quote focuses on claiming the difference between unsuccessful and successful people is based on where their mind is at that particular moment or looking ahead towards the intended outcome. I don’t necessarily agree that one is better than the other and makes one unsuccessful vs successful as it depends on the person is at in their lives in making the decision and what they are specifically making it on.
For example, if I’m at the Hard Rock Cafe and make a high wager in the game of the poker (which to be honest I have never played in my life) because I want to win the million dollar prize does that make me successful because I made my my decision based on where I wanted the outcome to be? Highly unlikely. I’d most likely wind up losing more than just my life savings in the process. Now if I made my decision based on my current financial standing and I either lost a little or earned a little, no harm, no foul. I wouldn’t consider myself a unsuccessful person in my decision to risk less.
Now what if we made the decision based on our current situation and where we hope to be at the same time? When a team is making plans to intervene on something in order to help better someone or a group of individuals, the decision is being made based on the current condition of the situation and in the hopes of what the desired outcome is to be and, in this case, it is the growth of those being helped is what matters most.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards increasing your responsible decision making skills in your own life?
