“Joy is the emotional expression of the courageous Yes to one’s own true being.”
It is very hard for most people to think about something or someone that brings them Joy in their lives and have it not bring a smile to their face if given the chance to talk or write about it. Emotions of great pleasure and happiness flow change your state of being, even if you were in a bad mood. Go ahead and try it. Think of something or someone that brings joy to your life. What about it makes you feel that sense of Joy? When you take the time to acknowledge it and let it soak in, that is the power that emotions have on us.
When we allow the feeling of Joy to enter into our lives, like Paul Tillach says in today’s quote we are saying Yes to our own true being. We come to the realization that if we are able to find the joy in our lives through either spending time with our family, writing poetry or even volunteering at a soup kitchen we gain a better understanding as to who we are and what really makes us tick.
I often think we get so caught up in the hustle of reaching the next marker in our journey of life or checking off the next box on our never ending “To Do” list that we never take a breath to celebrate that joy in our lives. So I’m suggesting you stop what you are doing and give the emotion of Joy the time it so righteously deserves. This feeling of joy will give yourself a much needed sense of optimism that we are in fact blessed to be alive and that there are many things in our lives to be thankful for. Once we become more aware of this, the better off we will be.
