Only the Strong Survive

“Strong people have a strong sense of self-worth and self-awareness; they don’t need the approval of others.”

-Roy T. Bennett, The Light in the Heart

One of the things my wife and I have tried to develop and instill within our daughter over the years is for her to have a strong sense of self-worth and self-awareness. These are basically one in the same and all center around understanding, accepting and loving yourself.  This by no means is an easy task and even adults still struggle with this due to some sort of trauma they may have experienced in their past or even now.

Understanding yourself includes knowing your emotions, thoughts and what you value and “the why” behind each of them. It essentially is what makes you tick. Accepting yourself is very hard because how you are and how you act may be different than those you may encounter at school and work. But like what is mentioned above in today’s quote, you don’t need the approval of others. Being yourself is enough and makes you special and you, you. When you have sustained a certain level of progress or success in these first two areas of self worth then you can truly love yourself for who you are. The saying goes you cannot truly love others until you love yourself. This has never been more true that the challenges we have in maintaining our own self care and well being.

So…..for all those who are continuing to search for meaning or purpose in their lives, who they truly are or can become just remember this…..Please know that you are worth it and this world is a better place just by having you in it. You matter.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards increasing your own self awareness?
