Take That Chance
“In the end, we only regret the chances we didn’t take and the decisions we waited to make.”
Regrets. Just even thinking of this word and the heavy implications can weigh on you and it’s the type of thing that keeps me up at night from time to time. The two words that stand out in my mind are “missed opportunities.” I believe we all can look back on instances where this has happened. Unfortunately many don’t reflect on these missed opportunities until it is too late in life to do anything about them. They didn’t make a decision to do something that may have changed the course of their lives for the better.
Often times these regrets are over those risks or chances we never took because we were afraid of the outcome: whether it was disappointing our loved ones or even ourselves. I know personally I never regretted my decision to step down my first time as an administrator. By no means was it an easy decision but I was missing out on some special moments my daughter was experiencing as she was growing up and I had unknowingly put a lot on my wife’s shoulders in the process. As it turns out everything happens for a reason and I am back at the school I had left which has helped things come full circle. I’m now at a point where I can be more conscientious in my decision making and weigh the options with a better understanding of what is best for balancing family and work.
I by no means am through taking any more risks or chances. Look at me now….two months ago I only thought about writing a blog, then made the decision over winter break to put my ideas and thoughts out there for the world to see. Next up is turning what I’m writing into a podcast to inspire others and hopefully write and finish my first book by the summer. When my time is said and done on this earth I want to leave it knowing that I lived with no regrets, lived my life on my terms and based on my decisions, holding nothing back. It is truly then I can honestly so I lived life to the fullest.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards increasing your responsible decision making skills in your own life?
