“There is nothing impossible to him who will try.”
-Alexander The Great
Nothing is impossible as long as you put in the effort. That is essentially what Alexander the Great is saying in today’s quote. He uses the word try which I know totally contradicts what Yoda says to Luke in Star Wars’ Empire Strikes Back , “Do or do not there is no try.” Although Master Jedi Yoda and Alexander The Great have differing opinions their belief systems are one in the same: everything comes done to your choice to make it happen or not.
Have you ever thought before starting a new job, work/home project or paying off that mountain of a student debt loan that the whole thing seemed an impossible? I know it has happened to me plenty of times. For me, I have a tendency to do some negative self-talk trying to convince myself not to even attempt it and that it will most likely end in disappointment. However once I get that out of my system and take a few deep breaths, I’m able to refocus and tell myself that unless I even put an effort it will be impossible.
The bottom line is this: What is the worst that could happen to you by trying? The results not going your way? That’s going to happen, that’s life. We need to be vulnerable and put ourselves out there. Make the choice today to try something you thought was once impossible. I thought for past several years it would be impossible for me to write my first book until I decided to try through being disciplined and committed to the process. I’m happy to report I just finished it the other day. It will come as no shocker as to what the title is as it focuses on SEL and how to bring the best out of yourself: Our Moral Compass: Not All Who Wander Are Lost. So nothing is impossible as long as you make the decision to try. What have you got to lose?
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your responsible decision making skills?
