All You Need Is Love (and Truth)

“I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality.”

-Martin Luther King Jr. (from Dr. King’s Nobel Acceptance Speech in 1964)

The foundation of a solid relationship is built on unarmed truth and unconditional love. Someone who has unarmed truth respects individuals and their freedom to believe in what they believe in. They withhold any weapons of judgment upon others who may have differing viewpoints than them because there are other qualities that the individual possesses that supercedes anything else. It allows for open dialog to occur and for each side to listen actively to one another. This prevents any exterior walls or emotional shields from going up and actually strengthens the core of the relationship.

When we given someone else unconditional love we are loving them unselfishly and that we would do anything in the world for them to be happy without expecting anything in return. This often occurs with our significant other, a close friend and especially with a child. In any relationship we should never be looking to gain something from that certain someone but rather give something to that certain someone that exhibits that unconditional love. We have the tendency to forget this and need to realize that no one owes us anything and we need to be more intentional with our actions if we hope our relationship skills with others continues to flourish instead of flounder.

Relationships can only thrive when unconditional love is exhibited by those involved. Love is not built on a bed of lies but on being truthful at all times no matter what.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
