Don’t Miss Out On Your Future

“Change is the law of life. And those who look only to the past or the present are certain to miss the future.”

-John F. Kennedy

Change is something that no matter how hard we try will always happen. That is to reference Mufasa saying in the Lion King to Simba about “the circle of life.” Change is constant. It can be great. It can be hurtful.  As you are experiencing change you may experience a wide range of emotions and as you become aware of those it is during this process of change that your skills in self management will be put to the test.

In today’s quote President John F. Kennedy refers to change as the law of life. As we know laws refer to a systems of rules that regulate the actions of its members. The keyword in that statement is regulate which means to control or maintain. This is what we do when we are engaged in self managing our emotions, behaviors and thoughts. We need to be mindful of this especially when we know that change is always coming for you. The better prepared we are emotionally the better our reaction will be.

President Kennedy goes onto say we will miss the future if we look to the past or the present. How often do we dwell on past decisions we have made that may not have turned out the way we had hoped it would? It is too many to count for me. We then can get caught up in a sort of funk and if we don’t snap out of it quick enough we may not be prepared for the next change to come about. This can be the future but remember, if we are still in the past we are also missing the present or not in “the moment.”

It will be a daily challenge for us to control our impulses and remembering to stay grounded in our self-discipline when change happens. We need to make sure we take the time and necessary steps towards creating personal goals with parameters that concentrate on how we can better self regulate when change occurs so that we keep moving forward on the path towards achieving our dreams.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
