Let’s All Lend A Helping Hand
“Successful people are always looking for opportunities to help others.”
After the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers in New York heroic stories came out of this horrific day that highlighted acts of bravery and courage displayed by many Americans that had occurred while this act of terror was unfolding before our very eyes. The multitude of opportunities to help one another was there for the taking and many Americans seized those opportunities and grabbed it with both hands without reservation. Without prejudice. The empathy and compassion displayed on this day and the days after by these heroes is exactly what we are currently witnessing in this pandemic in 2020.
Examples of these acts of heroism occurred in multiple settings and since then stories have been shared as to what exactly was done. Flight attendants On American Airlines Flight 11 were able to warn their airline that that there plane was being hijacked. Another person was able to save a man who was stuck on the 81st floor of the South Tower despite the debris blocking his pathway to rescuing him. Moments after the attack on the Pentagon someone opened a triage area right away in order to help those in need. All she had was a first aid kit but her actions aided 75 people. On Flight 93 several passengers gave up their lives to save an attack that was planned for either the White House or the US Capitol took out the hijackers on board causing the plane to crash in Pennsylvania. The list goes on and on.
We are seeing this again today by heroes that are stepping up to help others during this Covid-19 pandemic. Medical health professionals are risking their own lives to help others who are sick and battling this illness. People are donating and volunteering at local food banks. School districts are doing what they can to feed families during the week by providing food for students who typically depend on lunches during the school week. Masks are being made for our health care workers by businesses that typically do not make masks but halted their own operations to help supply them with much needed medical supplies. There have even been stories where high school students have figured out ways to make homemade 3D masks to help with the cause. Neighbors are helping the elderly by going to the grocery store for them. These are just examples of the every day acts of heroism that we are currently witnessing.
Both events, despite all of the pain, suffering and loss, shows how we as a society can come together and help one another. These acts of kindness embody the true essence of what social awareness is all about. If this doesn’t clearly show what successful people are made up of then I don’t know what does.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards becoming more socially aware?
