“Your culture is your brand.”
-Tony Hseih, Zappos
Today’s quote by CEO of Zappos Tony Hseih is one that is short and sweet but definitely one that gets right to the point. Culture is a way of life. It is a seamless pattern where connections are made between what people know, belief and how they behave. The outlook, attitudes, values, morals, goals, and customs are shared by society. In essence they are one.
Now when it comes to our brand this is where a name, design, symbol or any other feature identifies what we do best that makes us stand out from everyone else. Its that innate, unique quality that separates the men from the boys and the women from the girls. And for the purpose of today’s entry our culture is that brand.
Our culture comes down to our relationship with one another. Do we hold everyone in high esteem? Do we offer a level playing field where all voices are heard and appreciated? Does everyone work on their relationship with one another through clear communication and do whatever it takes to establish and maintain it for the sake of the group at large?
There are many companies that are quality examples of this: Zappos, Life Is Good and Google just to name a few. At the elementary school I work at I’d like to think that our culture is our brand. We have adopted the #CoteeStrong theme this year through all that we have been and continue to go through as a school with the pandemic still a present force in our everyday lives. We have always been a solid team. A team that is more like family. A family that’s heart beats as one. We pride ourselves on putting the needs of others first, we celebrate one another for team and individual accomplishments, and are there for each other is our time of need. This culture isn’t just limited to the staff, its with the students and their parents as well as the local community as a whole. We realize that we have the distinct honor of building the future of tomorrow and instilling within our students the belief that anything is possible. They know that they have the love and support of not only their family at home but also their family at school. We have a strong sense of pride and commitment to everyone and know that our love for one another will conquer any challenges that come our way because we are never alone because we have each other.
