Clear And Powerful

“There is an eloquence in true enthusiasm that is not to be doubted. “

-Washington Irving

If you were to think back on times you experienced true enthusiasm in your life what stands out to you as to the reasons why? What helped to give you that strong sense of overall enjoyment and peeked your interest? Another word I associate with enthusiasm is the word passion. Washington Irving was an American short story writer in the 19th century and was known for such stories as Rip Van Wrinkle and Sleepy Hollow.

His quote reminds us that there is such a powerful emotion expressed in our enthusiasm that is undeniable. He uses the word eloquence in describing this true enthusiasm which means that the enthusiasm is fluent, forceable and elegant which results in a certain level of conviction or persuasion. It is obvious that Washington Irving’s enthusiasm was displayed through the beauty of his writing.

That enthusiasm is something that is already built within our DNA as it is a part of our thoughts, feelings and emotions. We control our level of enthusiasm in all that we do. If we are doing something that we are highly interested in our level of enthusiasm goes up, while if it is something we are dreading having to do our level of enthusiasm almost becomes non-existent.

For some it is being an artist, a teacher or doctor. Whatever sparks your interest, it inspires you and that enthusiasm becomes evident to all who observe you in action whether they are working alongside you or just are listening to the passion behind the words you say when talking about what you do for a living. You can tell when someone has that drive from those that don’t.

My experiences in education and just life overall has led me towards my enthusiasm in the area of Social Emotional Learning and wanting to make sure we as a society recognize that the social emotional side is just as important as the academic side. Both need to compliment one another in order to really develop the whole child. I have found an eloquence in my enthusiasm for this topic through writing this daily blog, the podcast and the writing of books on this topic. So what is something that brings out your true enthusiasm? If you are not sure, now is the time to find out. And if you already know what it is, what can you do to make sure that embodies that same eloquence in all that you do?

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards managing yourself better?
