Our Moral Compass: How A Leader Can Strengthen A Relationship

“A good objective of leadership is to help those who are doing poorly to do well and to help those who are doing well to do even better.”

-Jim Rohn

In order to be an effective leader there are many qualities that one needs to possess. Michael Page writes about eight must have qualities of an effective leaders:

-share their vision

-lead by example

-demonstrate integrity

-communicate effectively

-make hard decisions

-recognize success

-empower others

-motivate and inspire

Each of these qualities are is very powerful in their own right and can easily stand on their own. But it is the one where effective leaders empower others is what I connect to most with today’s quote by legendary American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker Jim Rohn. He speaks of effective leadership as having the ability to help those are doing poorly do well and helping those who are doing well do better. This is essentially relationship building at its finest. It is a selfless act of a leader putting the needs of others before their own and focus on helping others get even better. It is also the foundation of what servant leadership is all about. The beauty in empowering others is it also empowers you as a leader to being someone that they not only admire but respect. Remember respect is never given, it is earned. I sincerely believe that in order to truly become and effective leader you need to develop and strengthen your relationships with others and what better way than to helping them become the best they can be?

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
