“I swing big with everything I’ve got. I hit big or I miss big.”
American Professional Baseball player Babe Ruth, otherwise known as the Sultan of Swat, played for 22 seasons in the early 1900’s for the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees and is known as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His personality along with his style and play were one in the same: go all out and remember to keep swinging. And his quote for today provided words or wisdom that he lived by each and every day: swing big everything you’ve got and it doing so you will either hit big or miss big.
Like in baseball and in life, we can only control ourselves as it pertains to our emotions, thoughts, and behaviors. We decide whether to react to something with calmness or with anger. We decide whether to do something or not to do something. We control more than we think. The same goes for baseball when were are in the batter’s box. We decide to hit or swing away depending on the ball that the pitcher pitches to us. And this all happens in a split second. I like to think we are always in the batter’s box of our lives, trying to effectively manage our stress, control our impulses or motivating ourselves. In our continuous development of our self management skills we either hit big or miss big. Life will always have its ups and downs. We just need to remember to always just keep swinging because if we just keep your bat on your shoulders, like a fastball that goes whizzing by you into the catcher’s mitt, so will your life. Don’t let life pass you by, swing for the fences.
