“Face reality as it is, not as it was or as you wish it to be.”
Dr. Seuss once said “You know you’re in love when you can’t fall asleep because reality is finally better than your dreams.” And I believe it is our ability to create our own reality that gives us the greatest power of all that each of us possess no matter what our circumstances are, have been or will ever be. Former Chairman and CEO of General Electric Jack Welch reminds us in today’s quote that we can not look at reality as it used to be or what we hope it to be but rather face it head on as it is before us. That right there is a powerful responsible decision we all must be willing to make.
We cannot control go back into the past or leap into the future. We don’t have Doc Brown to come to us in his Delorean and take us where we want to go. Our reality’s past and the decisions we have made is what has shaped our current reality. Have some of our decisions been always good ones? No. Have they always been bad ones? Again no. But it is through our missteps and our triumphs that has helped make us into where we currently stand today. As the saying goes, the ball is in our court to face what lies before us, our current reality and make decisions that will ultimately affect our future. If we lose sight of this and fall into the trap of licking our wounds for past mistakes or become overly concerned about a future that has yet to come to fruition we will ultimately miss out on what is happening right here and now. This is something we cannot afford to happen. We can only focus on what we can control and what we can control is our current reality.
