Our Moral Compass: Be Something

“One must be something in order to do something.”

-Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe

Just Do It. We all have heard this catchphrase from the shoe brand Nike through their advertisements on TV or through seeing its merchandise worn by athletes in various sports. The slogan Just Do It is the action to just go out there and make it happen. But before you can just do it I think you have to be it. What I mean is in order for you to push yourself towards making your own pathway in life you have to first and foremost believe in yourself and what it is that you are striving to be or make happen in your life. Today’s quote by German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe reminds us that in order for us to do something in life, we need to be something in life.

No matter who you are and what stage you are in your life I’m here to tell you that you are something and you are somebody. No one should tell you anything different. You need to be the change you wish to see in the world. Be kind. Be honest. Be trustworthy. Be someone who is reliable and are there for others in their time of need. Know and understand your own emotions, thoughts and values and how they influence your behavior. You are that someone who determines what specifically your strengths and limitations are. Everything you do and say through every experience reveals you are that certain somebody which once you know who you are, can then do something impactful that will make this world a better place.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
