“It is the same with people as it is with riding a bike. Only when moving can one comfortably maintain one’s balance.”
There are times in our life where certain events happen to us where we just want give up our fight because whatever battle we are facing is too hard. Sometimes these have the tendency to be little things or big things. Whatever the case may be, no matter what life may throw our way and the certain challenges that seem overwhelming we must remember one thing: keep moving to maintain our mental balance. Theoretical physicist Albert Einstein uses the analogy of us riding a bike, something that most of us if not all have experienced in our lifetime. Let me explain.
Think back to when you first learned to ride a bike. You may have begun with training wheels that helped maintain your balance. As you became more comfortable, your parents started adjusting those training wheels so that you became less dependent on them and more dependent on the actual two wheels of the bike itself, maintaining your balance along the way. This balance was not just the physical but also the mental side of things because you needed to train your mind along with your body so they became one. Soon enough the training wheels came off and then the real challenge began. Your parent may have run along side you, encouraging you to pedal and then when you got enough speed, let you go where you fought hard to maintain your balance until eventually you lost your balance and fell down along with your bike. You may have hurt yourself physically but also it might have bruised your ego too because you had failed to maintain your balance. Your parents would encourage you to get back on and try again even when you may have thought about quitting. Over time you were able to improve each and every time until you began riding around with no hope and maintained your balance. This not only physical training for you but mental as well.
As Einstein said life is like riding a bike. In order to maintain balance we must remain in motion. Though there are times in our lives when we want to just want to jump off life’s bike because the pedaling may becoming too difficult at times or we may have had an unexpected pothole show up that may have thwarted us off of the our bike. The thing is this: we have to keep pedaling. We have to get back up on that bike and keep on moving. We only have the opportunity to go through this journey once. And no it isn’t easy but what really is? We are in control of how fast or slow the bike of life can go. We choose to go left or right. As long as we keep moving mentally with positive thoughts/actions I am confident that good things will come our way even when we are faced with life’s peaks and valleys. True balance can only be maintained when our thoughts are constantly in motion and its within our own control to make this happen.
