What Life Is All About

“Life isn’t about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself.”

-George Bernard Shaw

Finding yourself versus creating yourself. Both are important but only one at the end of the day or at the end of your life will help you to leave your mark on the world. Playwright George Bernard Shaw reminds us of this. I do however think that in order to create yourself one must find themselves in order to know what their purpose or calling is. The challenge is in making sure you do not spend your entire time while on this Earth trying to find yourself and leaving no time to create yourself.

I believe that if we are intentional in our thoughts and take the time to determine right from wrong, what we value and act accordingly this, in essence, is our moral compass. Throughout this process and the experiences we encounter we are able to find out what makes us tick in a sense. If we do not take the time to do this the creative side of things can never even begin to unfold.

Once we find ourselves we create an image in our minds of what we would like to become while living our lives. This is not limited to things career wise as it also pertains to the personal side of things. I like to think we are like a painter or sculptor that over time, through consistent effort and constant tweaking we create our masterpiece. In this case our masterpiece is ourselves and who we become. And remember…. a masterpiece doesn’t necessarily mean perfection. It is a work of outstanding artistry, skill, or workmanship. Your artistry. Your skill. Your workmanship. Be proud of the steps you take do to create yourself. Enjoy and love the process. Most often that is what is most  important than the actual result: the process, the journey.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
