Don’t Forget To Turn On The Light
“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.”
-Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Albus Dumbledore may have been a fictitious character in the book and movies series Harry Potter but his message to the students of Hogwarts while in the great dining hall during the book/movie Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban spoke to us all as we either read or watched him utter this powerful statement. Professor Dumbledore was a mentor to many and in particular to Harry Potter. Happiness is always something that is within us all even when we see nothing but darkness all around us.
The ups and downs that occur throughout our lives are inevitable as are when days turn into nights. We have the tendency to think that true happiness only comes when everything goes our way but we would be incorrect in our thinking. We are the owners of our own happiness button or in this case a switch. We all have one, and no it is not broken. But it may be hidden or buried deep inside our souls. We just need to take the time to find it and flip that switch to our happiness state.
Our well being depends on our own happiness. As state earlier, we control this. We control our emotions. We choose to be happy or sad or angry. Let me say that first part again. We choose. When we enter a dark room in the middle of the night and can’t see a thing, we can choose to either stumble around and trip over things or turn on the light to see where we are going. And which would you rather do? It’s a no brainer. But so is choosing to turn on the light to your own happiness. Just like everyone else does, you deserve the most happiness your heart can hold. So make it happen.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards defining/refining your own moral compass?
