“Individuals don’t win. Teams do.”
If you have ever have shopped at a Wal-Mart or a Sam’s Club you have American businessman Sam Walton to thank. He built these two businesses on the belief that the customer was the boss and it was they who kept a business running. He also prided himself on the premise that essentially team work makes the dream work. His quote today focuses on the fact that individuals do not win but teams do.
The only way that teams win is by doing things together; being on the same page. Look at the different dynasties in sports for instance. You had the New England Patriots of the 2000’s, the Chicago Bulls of the 90’s and the New York Yankees which seems like just about every decade. Each had what it took to win together. That teamwork, that camaraderie set them high above the competition. If you had a chance to watch ESPN’s The Last Dance you saw that with the Chicago Bulls. Although Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen were that 1-2 punch, each player on that team complimented one another, they communicated well and handled conflict within house when it arose.
In the business world you have companies like Google and Amazon that win in their own areas because they are a team and project that in all that they do. I know at my school we are strong together than a part. We are one team, one family, one heart. Relationships are built upon the foundation of love, trust and commitment to one another and a commitment to the mission or cause. Teams also bring out the best in one another too. So in essence its a double win: for the team and the individual. Two for the price of one. You can’t beat that.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
