Our Moral Compass: Life’s Beautiful Landscape

“Life is a like a landscape. You live in the midst of it but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance.”

-Charles Lindbergh

The typical and often heard “life is like” catchphrase is from the movie Forrest Gump: “Life is like a box of chocolate, you never know what you are gonna get” but did you know there was another one well before this? American aviator Charles Lindbergh talked about life as being like a landscape and us who are living it being caught up within it and can see things from our own perspective. I like to think about it from his profession as a person who flew planes: we are in the cockpit of our own lives. We are flying the plane of our lives.

The landscape of our life are the experiences that we encounter from the time we are born. As we acquire more knowledge over time we also acquire certain skillsets to help us face challenges head on. We are able to make adjustments when needed and when it is time to refuel ourselves we tae the time to do just that and “land the plane.” You may think this becomes a work of art but it is much more than that. It lets us deepen our own self awareness and make sure we fully recognize and understand the thoughts, feelings and emotions that we go through during certain experiences.

We have the best vantage point for sure as long as we take a moment to look around and realize it. When we do this we become the true aviator of our own lives.

What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
