Lean on Others, Don’t Go Through It Alone
“When you’re facing a challenge, lean on others for support. Don’t go through it alone.”
We’ve often heard the saying it is better to go together than it is to go it alone. And this can be no truer of a message than today. Inspirational speaker Austin Hatch says that whenever we are faced with a challenge we should lean on others for support. Whenever we face certain challenges we sometimes try and face it alone and solve the problem. This by no means is a bad thing as you want to be independent and try to figure out a solution on your own.
However there are times when you will need to tap out and turn to others whether it be your friends or your family to lean on for support. Sometimes they can just serve as that sounding board you need to give you feedback on how to tackle a certain problem you are facing. They can in a sense be another layer of support to your own conscience. Other times if there is something you are struggling with, substance abuse or dealing with a breakup or loss of a love one, they can be there for you to help pull you through. Their comforting words or even just that hug can make all the difference. And the thing is I know you would do the same for your friends or family when they are in need. That’s what makes relationships so powerful. You may have seen with certain sports teams they wear a warm up shirt the says Strength In Numbers. This message serves as way of letting other teams know that they are a true team and they are stronger together than they are apart.
When we go it alone we only have ourselves to rely on. Only our thoughts and our actions. At times this is manageable for us to handle depending on the situation. But life was never meant to be just a solo journey. We need one another to get us through a pandemic, political and social unrest. If we don’t learn to continue to lean on one another I feel our biggest loss will be losing certain relationship skills we have worked so hard to develop. When we do this we also lose a piece of who we are in the process. Don’t let this happen to you. Lean on one another and remember these specific lyrics by musician Bill Withers who sang the classic song Lean On Me:
Lean on me, when you’re not strong
And I’ll be your friend
I’ll help you carry on
For it won’t be long
‘Til I’m gonna need
Somebody to lean on
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards developing your relationship skills?
