Don’t Be A Pessimist
“Pessimism never won any battles, whether in peace or in war.”
-Dwight D. Eisenhower
When you see a glass of water filled halfway does it look half full or half empty to you? Often times this classic example is used as an observation to determine someone being an optimist or a pessimist. An optimist would say it is half full while a pessimist sees it as half empty. Optimism is that hopefulness and confidence about the future or the successful outcome of something while pessimism is the tendency to see the worst aspect of things or believe that the worst will happen. In other words it is a lack of hope or confidence in the future.
For me I’d like to think of myself being an optimist most of the time. No matter how unsettling life may get and certain situations don’t go the way I had hoped, I believe there is always light at the end of any dark tunnel. President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s quote about pessimism is 100% percent spot on. Battles in peace or in war are never won when you have those negative thoughts. And the thing is we choose which to be and whether or not we will stay in that mindset or not. The thing is we must recognize when pessimism is beginning to creep into our inner thoughts and psyche and put a stop to it right away.
We need to fill our thoughts with positivity that things will get better. That there is a reason for everything. When we are determined and confident that things will turn out for the better they in fact will because you yourself believe that they will. Again when we have hope we are optimistic. And hope is a good thing which can be the start or spark needed to turn things right around.
What does this quote mean to you and how can you apply today’s message towards improving your self awareness?
